In terms of population Italy is the fourth largest country in Europe and has long been attractive to holiday homeowners. Southern Italy with its Mediterranean climate is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Adriatic and Ionion Sea to the east, including the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.
To the north west of the country it borders the Alps and as such has a different appeal than the traditional Mediterranean holiday. Skiing and winter sports are the main attractions for those seeking the thrill of the slopes. Perhaps the appeal of the Tuscan farmhouse with vineyards or the house on the edge of Lake Garda will attract others. It has truly diverse appeal to those who go to Italy for differing reasons.
For many the desire to buy a holiday home in Italy proves hard to resist. Whether you have the holiday home purely for your own use which may mean leaving the property for long periods between visits or let for holiday use to cover some of the outgoings, it can be insured, and our clients take advantage of our flexible policy that covers both options.
Our clients are able to enjoy their holiday homes safe in the knowledge that we are able to offer them cover without the requirement of having to stay at the property within a specified certain timescale. Providing the property can, on your behalf, be checked internally at least once every thirty days you would be compliant with our main demand during the unoccupied periods. This requirement makes every sense not only from an insurer’s point of view but very importantly as far as the owner is concerned.
You can let the property for holiday use. If you do want to take advantage of the desirability of your property and let it for a holiday rental, this will also be covered on our holiday property insurance. It gives you the ultimate flexibility of being able to leave the property for long periods if you want the property just for your own use as well as being able to let it to holidaymakers to earn yourself an income to help pay the running costs for the property.
When arranging insurance for an Italian property one particular concern for clients has been cover for earthquake damage. Not every insurer will offer earthquake cover for properties in Italy, but we are happy to provide earthquake cover at an extra cost. It all depends on how concerned the individual is in relation to earthquake. An earthquake may not seem likely but in certain countries it is more of a risk than others. If you want to pay slightly more to include earthquake cover we are certainly happy to oblige and you have peace of mind it is covered for your Italian holiday home.
