Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and has many holiday homeowners all attracted to the Spanish way of life. The opening up of Europe by the cheaper air travel in recent years has made Spain a particular hotspot for holiday homeowners. lt would be fair to say that owning a holiday home in such a warm and welcoming climate, as well as the friendly locals, has made Spain extremely attractive for those seeking a property for leisure or retirement.
In the l990’s an influx of British buyers in the Spanish market helped create a property boom. Two main types of buyer were in the market for differing reasons. Firstly there were those looking for their ideal retirement home in the sun. The second type were those interested in buying a property as a holiday home for their own use and/or to let as holiday accommodation to provide an income to help with running costs. Whilst the majority of these properties were on the coast there has been a growing interest in properties away from the traditional Costa’s where buyers can get more value for their money.
A holiday property in Spain has many advantages for the owner. Take for example the flexibility to be able to come and go as you please. Providing the property can, on your behalf, be checked internally at least once every thirty days you would be compliant with our main demand during the unoccupied periods. This requirement makes every sense not only from an insurer’s point of view but very importantly as far as the owner is concerned.
